Values & Influence Assessment

Purpose of the Values & Influence Assessment:

• to increase awareness of generational values—our
  own and others'
• to learn about our own values-set’s strengths
  and blind side
• to increase understanding of our challenge generation
• to become adept at targeting communications to
  each values set
• to become more successful at building effective partnerships
  despite differences

The Values & Influence Assessment is a powerful interpersonal communications tool focusing on values and the impact they have on results. It goes beyond birth year to assess personal values.

Participants complete a brief, one-page questionnaire online before the session or on paper during the session. Their personalized score sheet graphs their four scores and displays their primary generational values system and their challenge generation.

Claire Raines designed the assessment to go beyond generational birth year. The simple 11-question assessment distills her findings from 3 decades of study into 44 specific attitudinal distinctions. Her original model ascribed generation based solely on birth year, or actual generation. Claire has long recognized that there are significant numbers of people born into one generation, but with values, beliefs, and attitudes consistent with the traditional characterization of another.

By identifying our generational values, we can better understand how we relate and communicate with others. Learning how to relate appropriately and effectively to work and to people is the key to getting the best results from all opportunities.

The VIA can be used with groups of all sizes.
